The Blog Was Quiet

—But the Work Was Loud: SCORE’s 2025 Year in Review

Category: Community Impact | Tags: Racial Equity, Youth Development, Inland Empire, Arts & Media, Education Justice

If you’ve noticed that our blog has been a little quiet lately, you’re not wrong—and that was intentional.

While the page may have been still, the work most certainly was not. Throughout 2025, SCORE was deeply embedded in the field—serving communities, mentoring youth, supporting educators, building partnerships, and showing up wherever equity, creativity, and justice were needed. Sometimes the most important work happens away from the keyboard.

“The quiet seasons are often when the most meaningful work gets done—out in the community, not behind a screen.”
— Dr. Tayari Kuanda, President, SCORE

As the year comes to a close, we’re proud to share what that work looked like.

2025 at a Glance

By the Numbers:

  • 2,500+ people served
  • 300+ youth and students engaged
  • 18 community events hosted
  • 30+ active partnerships
  • 3 countries, 15 cities and national regions reached
  • 45 volunteers and stipended staff

These numbers represent more than statistics—they reflect relationships, trust, and sustained presence.

Where We Showed Up: Direct Community Service

In 2025, SCORE delivered direct services across the Inland Empire in Rialto, San Bernardino, Fontana, Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Adelanto, and Colton.

Our Annual Community Health Fair remained a cornerstone of our work, connecting families with health education, screenings, and resources in culturally responsive spaces. We also supported youth mentorship, educational outreach, and neighborhood-based engagement—meeting people where they are.

“SCORE doesn’t just organize events—they stay connected long after the tables are packed up.”
— Community Partner

Empowering Youth Through Education & Media

Youth development continued to be at the heart of SCORE’s mission.

Through our Cinema Camera Training Series and student internships, young people gained hands-on experience in media production, storytelling, and technical skills aligned with real-world career pathways.

We proudly supported Black Grad HD, celebrated student achievement, and strengthened collaboration with Victor Valley College’s Umoja Program and the Victor Valley Union High School District’s Heritage and Legacy Programs.

Our educational consulting work also supported best practices and anti-racism in education, helping schools build more inclusive learning environments.

Culture as a Tool for Healing & Connection

At SCORE, we believe culture is not an accessory to justice—it’s central to it.

In 2025, we supported events that uplifted creativity, joy, and collective pride, including:

  • HD Queendom Event & Awards, honoring women leaders and creatives
  • Car Show, Domino Tournament, and Community Concert, strengthening community bonds
  • Winter Coat Outreach, supporting families during colder months
  • Summer spoken word, music, and poetry workshops with Midwest collaborators

We also partnered with No Drugs America to contribute two brand-new bicycles to a youth giveaway—supporting wellness, mobility, and positive engagement.

Building Partnerships for Systems-Level Change

SCORE continued to expand its regional influence through partnerships and civic engagement.

In 2025, we strengthened our role within the Inland Empire Black Equity Initiative alongside BLU Foundation, participated in the Black Education Congress, and collaborated with the Inland Empire Community Foundation.

Our civic outreach with the City of Rialto, including media engagement on Spectrum Channel 3 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99, amplified local voices and community storytelling.

We were also honored to support Parade of Pianos, uplifting young musicians, and to collaborate with local barbershops providing mentorship and outreach for young men.

Powered by People

Behind every program and partnership were 45 dedicated volunteers and stipended staff supporting SCORE across leadership, education, health equity, arts, media, events, civic engagement, and communications.

Their time, talent, and heart made it possible for SCORE to remain present, responsive, and impactful—even with limited resources.
