March was a month centered on exposure, access, and continued engagement for SCORE.
From national conversations to hands-on student experiences, the work continued to focus on preparing students not just to succeed—but to understand and navigate the systems around them.
Amplifying the Mission on KVCR
On March 26th, Dr. Tayari Kuanda was featured on KVCR Public Media’s Black Perspectives IE, sharing insight into the work of SCORE and the importance of addressing systemic inequities in education and society.
The conversation reinforced key themes:
- The intersection of race and social class
- The importance of education as a tool for empowerment
- The need for honest dialogue about systemic barriers
This platform provided an opportunity to extend SCORE’s mission into a broader public conversation.
Creating Real-World Exposure for Students
One of the most impactful moments of the month was taking a group of high school students to KVCR for a tour of a working television and radio studio.
For students, this experience provided:
- Direct exposure to media careers
- A real understanding of production environments
- A connection between classroom learning and real-world application
These opportunities are critical.
cannot pursue what they have never seen.
Education Beyond the Classroom
Experiences like this reinforce SCORE’s belief that education must go beyond textbooks.
Students need:
- Exposure
- Access
- Opportunity
- Encouragement
By creating these experiences, we help students expand their sense of what is possible.
Sustaining the Work
March also included a brief period of rest and reflection during spring break.
This pause allows for:
- Recalibration
- Strategic thinking
- Continued preparation for the work ahead
Because meaningful impact requires both action and sustainability.
Looking Forward
As we move into the coming months, SCORE remains committed to:
- Expanding student opportunities
- Strengthening community partnerships
- Continuing to address systemic inequities
- Preparing students for long-term success
Closing Reflection
Exposure leads to awareness.
Awareness leads to opportunity.
Opportunity leads to change.
And this month, that cycle continued.
